Giyun’s Computational Study on Light Scene and Affective Quality

Giyun has successfully debuted her first poster, “How to explore the visual features of images with lighting”, at the KIIEE(The Korean Institute of Illuminating and Electrical Installation Engineers) 2023 poster session. This marks Giyun’s first participation in an in-person conference, where she presented her work during the conference in Jeju from November 15th to 17th. A big round of applause for Giyun on this meaningful milestone!

Abstract

This study analyzed images that contain lighting features at the pixel level to understand their brightness and color features. Grayscale values were extracted to determine brightness and contrast. Hue and saturation values were analyzed to identify color usage. As a result, we classified images and obtained meta-data that clearly distinguished the visual traits. Furthermore, we mapped each classified category to adjectives that represent the feeling of the images, suggesting potential applications in lighting design.
