Minjung has successfully completed her Master’s degree after two years of hard work. Her thesis, titled “Designing Facial Expression Guidelines for Avatar-Mediated Communication [아바타 매개 의사소통을 위한 표정 디자인 가이드라인],” is the result of her dedicated efforts. Throughout her research, Minjung delved into various aspects, starting with an exploration of the current landscape of avatars’ facial expressions and emotional conveyance. She then developed a comprehensive design guideline to effectively communicate emotions through avatars. To validate her work, she applied the guidelines to original avatars and evaluated their performance. The findings from her research provide valuable insights for designing avatar facial expressions that facilitate better avatar-mediated communication. Excitingly, as of September 2023, Minjung has embarked on a new chapter in her academic journey as a Ph.D. student at Carnegie Mellon University HCII. We wish her all the best in her future endeavors!
